Luciano CalderonSwitzerland / Bolivia

Luciano Calderon (b. 1986, BOL/CH) spans an autobiographical narrative of personal imprints through his body of work. Between influences from music, folk art, bootleg culture, and both cultural and personal histories, the artist develops his own visual language. With intense colors and intricate compositions, Calderon effortlessly channels the vibrant aesthetic of everyday urban life in Latin America. His works pay tribute to a milieu that resists socioeconomic domination through creativity and self-expression. By appropriating and altering language, symbols, and social codes, he charges them with layered meanings, forming a bridge between academic conceptions of art and raw, spontaneous, unfiltered creativity.

Calderon lives and works in Barcelona. He has had numerous significant solo exhibitions, including at the Museo Nacional de Arte in La Paz (2016), Centro Cultural Simón I. Patiño in Santa Cruz (2015), and IMA in La Paz (2014). His work was featured in the group exhibition City Prince/sses, curated by Hugo Vitrani at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris (2019). Calderon has participated in international group shows and fairs, including Art Brussels (2022), Verão Arte Contemporânea in Brazil (2013), and PARTE Art Fair in São Paulo (2013). Early exhibitions at Hollywood in Cambodia (2011) and Atipaña, La Paz (2010), reflect his long-standing engagement with grassroots visual culture. His works are held in private and public collections across Europe and Latin America.
