A void in the Cheops Daniel Weissbach (DE)
Daniel Weissbach will present his third solo exhibition with Ruttkowski;68. Under the title A void in the Cheops, the exhibition spans a fictional arch from the ancient Pyramid of Cheops to a distant civilization hundreds of thousands of years in the future. Here, the artist extrapolates the method of layering fragments of urban space that he developed in his stellen paintings in an unforeseen direction. The new, large-format installation Zqueezed Orient-Ekzprezz 502.019 a.C.shows us fragments of mosaics from various subway stations along Berlin’s U8 line. Crushed and shredded by millennia of tectonic pressure, these remains are presented on a neat grid to be studied by the archaeologists of a remote future. In view of our present ecological crisis, Weissbach subtly invites us to imagine what the material legacy of our species might look like when we’re no longer around.
