KraftPLus+ Frédéric Platéus

Paris 2024/03/10 2024/04/07

Frédéric Platéus (b. 1976 in Liège, BE) presents his fourth solo exhibition KraftPLus+ with Ruttkowski;68 in Paris.

His work, characterized by its highly polished and clean precision, features expansive wall sculptures made up of distinct geometric shapes These compositions, resembling dynamic puzzles, pulsate with energy derived from bold, sharp, and vigorous movements. Platéus skillfully integrates various industrial tools and processes, resulting in sleek and glossy surfaces that challenge notions of fetish and desirability.

Various series of works incorporate elements from cars, racing bikes, and motorsports. By researching and experimenting with new technologies and materials, new forms and aesthetics constantly evolve. The “Engine Turned and Candy” series, with its pigmented epoxy on stainless steel, mimics the effect of a painting, reminiscent of the holographic allure of 80s stickers, a motif that resurfaces in today’s Pokémon cards. Being surrounded by hip-hop, skateboarding, and BMX cultures while growing up, where customizing objects with stickers and decals was part of the identity, Platéus picks ups these imprints and pastime memories. The prominent logos and crew names emblazoned on joggers, sneakers, and hoodies, still permeate his work today.

Integrating these nostalgic elements of past influences into newest technologies and high-tech appearance, KraftPLus+ tells its own narrative of contemporary conditions.
