DU BIST DRAN | YOUR TURN TO PLAY | A TOI DE JOUER | 換你了 Prosper Legault
Prosper Legault (b. 1994 in Bordeaux, FR) presents his third solo exhibition DU BIST DRAN | YOUR TURN TO PLAY | A TOI DE JOUER | 換你了with Ruttkowski;68 in Düsseldorf.
At the core of Legault’s works are mundane elements from the urban streets – such as advertisements, shop or restaurant signs – which often go unnoticed in the monotony of everyday life. Through careful curation, he brings together disparate pieces and allows individual fragments to form new narratives.
By appropriating, alienating and transforming the discarded, the dispensable and obsolete, Legault creates sculptures that appear both familiar and strange. They evoke associations, memories and references to past impressions and, in their autonomy, allow alternative realities to be imagined from remnants. Independent yet interdependent, they construct relational worlds that allude to the long history of their existence, their global connections and their local significance. In the rhythm of art, they undergo transformations, pointing towards a hopeful ambiguity.
Their distinctive aesthetics underscore themes of growth and stagnation, learning and forgetting, sharing and isolating – yet ultimately reveal nothing other than what resonates in the observer.
