“Who`s there?” Lars Eidinger

Düsseldorf 2024/11/09 2024/12/15

Lars Eidinger presents his second solo exhibition “Who’s there?” (b.1976, Berlin at Ruttkowski;68 in Düsseldorf.

The photographs capture everyday encounters in their raw immediacy. The smartphone, as a constant companion, becomes the medium of creation, bridging the gap between self and world; it allows for the perspective of the direct gaze to be recorded without distorting the act of seeing.

The evoked stimuli unfold a depth and complexity that could hardly be anticipated in the fleeting moment of capture. Only through the medium of photography does a (subjective) meaning emerge – a personal negotiation between the unconscious and the conscious. The individually recognized interstices of opposing categories form the content of the works, which is not only determined by the frame, but also by a complexity that transcends the surface. They speak of the world, of what they include and exclude, and – above all – of what the viewer reveals, of what is recognized, understood, and given meaning. Of the question “Who’s there?”, with its inherent ambiguity, and the impossibility of finding an answer.
