Houdini Group Show

It is with great pleasure that we announce our exhibition Houdini at Ruttkowski;68 in Düsseldorf. Houdini is the second edition of a new series of exhibitions organized by ArtJunk. Featuring selected works by nine international artists, the group show explores subjects of illusion and (self-)staging in the context of contemporary portraiture. At a time when digital media and social networks are increasingly shaping the way we perceive ourselves, the works on show focus on diverging artistic approaches. From large-scale paintings and sculpture through to photographic stagings, the exhibition raise questions about the authenticity of the presented self, the role of masks and the power of illusion. The different perspectives are intended to open up a dialogue about the thin line between reality and fiction and the way we see ourselves and others.
