Daddy Dying Sun Carolin Eidner

New York 2025/02/21 2025/03/29

Carolin Eidner (b. 1984 in Berlin, DE) presents her third solo exhibition Daddy Dying Sun at Ruttkowski;68 in New York—marking her first solo show in the city.

At its center is the expansive triptych Tribunal, where seemingly friendly faces gaze at us, gradually revealing their judgmental dispositions. This direct confrontation, along with the motif of the sun as a symbol of the absolute, is embedded in geometric structures that appear to dissolve. Eidner—renowned and internationally awarded for her distinctive approach to material and subversive undertones—intricately weaves a poetic tapestry that oscillates between abstraction and narration, emphasizing the inherently fluctuating nature of rigid structures. This is further highlighted by her unique approach to materiality. By infusing plaster with pigments and then sanding the work, she creates hybrid forms that bridge painting and sculpture, blurring the boundaries between digital elements and an archaic, timeless appearance.

Through a carefully curated interplay of contrasts, Eidner generates tension between elements that defy established genres, yet form a cohesive physical body, leaving space for poetic resonance.
