92-95 Larry Clark
Ruttkowski;68 is pleased to present Larry Clark 92– 95, a collection of seventy-five color photographs by LARRY CLARK (B. 1943 IN TULSA, US) shot between the years 1992-1995 in New York City, first shown at Luhring Augustine in 1996, curated by Leo Fitzpatrick.
The photographs on display here are from just before Kids (Clark’s controversial debut film from 1995), and show the photographer deeply entrenched in the New York City skateboard scene, one generally off limits to adults.
Continuing his exploration of adolescent subcultures that began with his first books Tulsa and Teenage Lust, Clark’s skater photographs represent a symbol of freedom and self-expression. Unlike the black-and-white stillness that dominated much of Clarks previous work, this collection of photographs from New York City’s Brooklyn Banks, Astor Place, and Washington Square Park captures the skaters snapshot style, frozen in motion, in color, raw, and unpolished.
Larry Clark is a iconic photographer who continues to push the boundaries in both the art and film worlds. His work is included in important collections in the United States, Europe and Asia. He lives and works in New York.
