Sarah CaillardFrance
Sarah Caillard‘s (b. 1988 in Paris, FR) work spans sculpture, drawing, video, and installation. Her artistic practice frequently delves into the themes of fragility and transformation, particularly focusing on the human body. Influenced by both classical and contemporary art, Caillard explores the tensions between permanence and impermanence, stasis and movement. Her work is deeply rooted in the concept of metamorphosis, drawing from both mythological and scientific sources to address themes of identity, memory, and the fluidity of the human condition.
Caillard uses an array of materials, including concrete, polystyrene, fiberglass, and epoxy resin, to create anthropomorphic figures that are often frozen in dynamic, almost cinematic, poses. The figures appear poised between stillness and motion, embodying both the monumental permanence of classical sculpture and the vulnerability of the human experience.
Her sculptures challenge the static nature of the medium. By embedding elements of movement and transformation into her pieces, Caillard infuses her work with an emotional depth. Her work explores metamorphosis—both physical and psychological—leaving behind a ghostly, emotional imprint of the human experience.
Sarah Caillard holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the École Nationale Supérieure de La Cambre in Brussels, which she completed in 2014. Her works have been exhibited internationally, among others, at the Galerie Huberty & Breyne in Brussels (2022), the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2022), and t Wayfarer The Cabin, Los Angeles, (2019). She was part of various residencies, among others, at Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris, Paris (2023), La Brea studio residency in Los Angeles (2019), Le Grand Phare in Belle île en mer (2018).
