THE FRIEDRICH VORDEMBERGE GRANT
Every year, the city of Cologne awards five grants in the fields of visual arts (Friedrich Vordemberge grant), media art (Chargesheimer grant), literature (Rolf Dieter Brinkmann grant) and music (Bernd Alois Zimmermann scholarship for contemporary music and the Horst and Gretl Will scholarship for jazz and improvised music) to promote outstanding young artists.
Stefan Charles, who is involved in the selection process as chairman of the overall jury, is impressed by the high quality of the submissions, especially from first-time applicants. This speaks for the quality of the training universities and the attractiveness of the NRW region as a location and springboard for artists.
Mathias Weinfurter (1989) from Cologne was selected for the Friedrich Vordemberge grant in the fine arts category. Astrid Bardenheuer, member of the expert jury :
In his work, Mathias Weinfurter deals with social situations and circumstances, which he critically questions and focuses on from the implicitness of their everyday appearance. Using simple means, he finds visual formulations for multi-layered and complex phenomena that are aesthetically appealing in a clear and concise manner. Intensive images are created that enable intuitive access to the various subject areas.
Look forward to the presentation of his works in the artothek, a space for young art.
Exhibition opening: October 25, 2023. It will be on display for 14 days.
